Preview Introduction:
This month’s Leadership Lens brings our Quarter Three journey from shaping into stewardship. We have remained in the Potter’s hands. We have considered the pressure that removes, refines, and strengthens. Now comes an important leadership question: Are we ready to carry what God has been preparing us to hold? Ready To Carry The Treasure! challenges leaders to recognize that preparation is not merely about surviving the process. God develops the vessel because there is something He intends to entrust to it. Readiness requires more than gifting. It requires capacity. It requires integrity. It requires discernment. And it requires a leader mature enough to carry the Treasure without making the vessel the focus.
What We’re Seeing:
God is preparing leaders not simply for greater visibility, but for greater stewardship. There is a significant difference. Visibility asks, “How many people can see me?” Stewardship asks, “Can God trust me with what He places in my hands?”
The next assignment may require more than greater gifting. It may require stronger character, healthier boundaries, increased accountability, deeper discernment, and greater capacity to serve without losing sight of Who the assignment belongs to.
Key Takeaway:
Readiness is not determined simply by whether we have the gift to carry the assignment, but whether we have developed the character and capacity to steward it well.
Adjusting Focus:
Leadership ambition often asks, “What is next?” Spiritual maturity asks, “Am I ready?” Not every open door must be entered. Not every opportunity belongs to us. Not every request deserves a yes. And not every increase in influence represents an increase in assignment. Discernment becomes essential when the vessel begins moving from preparation into active stewardship. Leaders must learn to recognize the difference between opportunity and assignment—and develop boundaries strong enough to protect what God has actually entrusted to them.
Discernment Diamond:
Being capable of carrying something does not automatically mean God has assigned you to carry it.
Through The Lens:
2 Timothy 2:20-21 gives us the image of a vessel prepared and made useful to the Master. The emphasis is not simply on the existence of the vessel. It is on its condition, readiness, and usefulness. Likewise, 2 Corinthians 4:7 reminds us that the treasure has been placed in earthen vessels so that the excellence of the power is clearly understood to belong to God. Together, these truths challenge leaders to consider both sides of stewardship: The vessel must be prepared for the Treasure, and the vessel must never become more prominent than the Treasure.
Key Takeaway:
God prepares the vessel for usefulness, but faithful stewardship continually points attention back to the One who supplied the Treasure.
A Closer Look:
Greater assignment requires greater stewardship. And greater stewardship often introduces responsibilities that were less visible during the formation process. Boundaries become stewardship. Accountability becomes stewardship. Rest becomes stewardship. Integrity becomes stewardship. Knowing when to say yes – and when to say no – becomes stewardship. Recognizing what belongs in your hands and what belongs in someone else’s becomes stewardship. Even empowering others becomes part of stewardship because mature leadership is not threatened by shared responsibility. The goal is not to carry everything. The goal is to faithfully carry what God assigned.
Key Takeaway:
Capacity is not proven by how much you can hold at once. It is demonstrated by how faithfully you manage what God has actually placed in your hands.
Point Of Focus:
There comes a point when preparation must become participation. God does not shape vessels simply to display His craftsmanship. He prepares them for service. The question is no longer only whether we have endured the process. The question becomes: What will we do with what the process has prepared us to carry? Readiness means bringing the lessons of formation, refinement, surrender, discernment, boundaries, accountability, integrity, and humility into the assignment itself. God is preparing us to proclaim, “I am not merely prepared to receive the assignment, I am committed to stewarding it faithfully.”
Let’s Magnify The Focus:
This month, leaders are invited to examine their readiness for stewardship. Before pursuing what is next, consider what God has already placed in your hands. Where has your capacity increased? Where do stronger boundaries need to be established? Who has permission to hold you accountable? Are you discerning assignments carefully – or accepting opportunities automatically? Are you developing others, or has leadership become dependent upon you carrying everything yourself? And perhaps most importantly: Does the way you carry the assignment consistently point people toward the Treasure – or toward the vessel? Readiness is not simply the ability to carry more… It is the maturity to carry well.
Call-To-Action:
- Carry the Treasure faithfully.
- Protect your integrity.
- Strengthen your capacity.
- Honor your boundaries.
- Invite accountability.
- Discern your assignments.
- Empower others to serve.
- And as God entrusts more to your hands, remain humble enough to remember:
- The vessel was prepared for the Treasure.
- The Treasure was never given to glorify the vessel.
