Biblical Wonder Women: HULDA
Biblical Wonder Woman: HULDA is introduced to us as a prophetess. This descendent of Rahab and Joshua and relative of Jeremiah was a prophetess in the Old Testament books of Kings and Chronicles. She lived in Jerusalem during the reign of King Josiah, who was one of a handful of good, God-fearing kings of Judah.
Recognizing that women were in no way considered equals in the male-dominated culture of that day, it is quite note-worthy that after the discovery of a book of the Law during renovations at Solomon’s Temple and on the order of King Josiah, Hilkiah, Ahikam, Acbor, Shaphan and Asaiah go to Hulda in search of the Lord’s opinion. (2 Kings 22:14)
Who was this woman that the king sent them to? This Kingdom servant was the wife of Shallum son of Tokhath, son of Harhas, who was keeper of the wardrobe. Her name means ‘to abide’ or ‘to continue’.
The Huldah Gates in the Southern Wall of the Temple Mount are named for her.[4]
