OPERATING IN THE LIGHT:  The Power Of The Process Preceding The Performance Of Purpose

“Gideon’s request for clarity was made in conjunction with an interesting, conditional, dependent clause that suggests an opposing condition.  And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then shew me a sign that thou talkest with me.”  (Verse 17)  Gideon felt forsaken, but he said, ‘If I’ve found favor  What God was presenting to Gideon was so radically different from who he believed he was at that time, that he needed for God to confirm His word to him.  Gideon missed God’s earlier proclamation:  “… Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?”  (Verse 14)  His strength was not in his family connections or his individual status.  It was not in his personal skills, talents or abilities.  It was not even in his audacious boldness to recover a portion of the Israeli harvests and process that portion in secret.  Gideon’s might was in God’s having sent him.  God commanded him to go in the strength of his God Who was sending him as an emissary on His behalf.  He had not yet been delivered, but he was already favored.  He had been chosen, empowered and sent by God.”

How many of us, like Gideon, cower at the thought of engaging in the assignment that God is sending us on?  We embrace every available excuse to extract ourselves from the next God-move because we believe we don’t have the needed strength, the right status or the necessary connections.  Paul tells us to “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.”  (Ephesians 6:10)  When God dispatches us for Kingdom assignments, He doesn’t just send us, He empowers us!  Our skills, abilities, gifts, talents and knowledge base has no real relevance except for however He chooses to use them within the assignment.  Our ability ‘To Do’ whatever He has called us to lies firmly in the power of His Might!!!  It is our faith in Him and our obedience to Him that unlocks His power within us to be evident through us.  God chooses us as His ambassadors to be different in this foreign place so we can make a difference in this place for Him!
